98.7 Kiss FM was an urban adult contemporary radio station based in New York City, operating under the call letters WRKS. It launched in 1981 and became a prominent station for R&B, soul, and hip-hop music, as well as talk programming targeted at African American audiences. The station was known for its community engagement and iconic personalities, including DJ Red Alert and Wendy Williams. In 2012, 98.7 Kiss FM ceased operations and merged with WBLS, another influential urban station in New York. The 98.7 frequency was subsequently leased to ESPN Radio for sports programming.
