WKNR, also known as "Keener 13," was a legendary Top 40 AM radio station based in Detroit, Michigan, that operated on the 1310 kHz frequency. It debuted on October 31, 1963, after a format change from WKMH and quickly became a major success due to its streamlined playlist, engaging on-air personalities, and energetic presentation. WKNR's popularity peaked in the 1960s, making it a defining influence in the Detroit music scene during the era. By the early 1970s, the station's influence waned as FM radio gained prominence, and it eventually transitioned to other formats before ceasing operations under the WKNR name. WKNR is remembered as an iconic part of 1960s radio history.
