97X was the branding for WOXY-FM, an alternative rock radio station based in Oxford, Ohio, that operated from 1983 to 2004. It gained a dedicated following for championing independent and alternative music, often ahead of mainstream trends. After ceasing its terrestrial broadcast in 2004, it transitioned to an online-only format before shutting down completely in 2010. The station became widely recognized after being referenced in the 1988 film *Rain Man*. Its tagline, "97X—Bam! The future of rock and roll," became iconic.
