WABX Playlist

WABX was a pioneering FM radio station in Detroit, Michigan, that played a key role in popularizing the "progressive rock" format during the late 1960s and 1970s. Launched in 1960 as a classical music station, it switched to freeform rock in 1967, allowing DJs to curate playlists featuring album tracks and emerging artists. WABX became influential in shaping Detroit's music scene, supporting local acts like the MC5 and the Stooges. The station's popularity waned in the late 1970s, and it eventually shifted to more conventional rock formats before rebranding entirely in later years. The WABX call letters are no longer associated with a Detroit station.
