Radio Liberty, also known as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), is an international broadcaster funded by the U.S. government. It began broadcasting to Romania during the Cold War as part of its mission to provide uncensored news and information to countries under communist rule. The station played a significant role in countering state propaganda and supporting democratic movements in Eastern Europe, including Romania. Its Romanian-language service ceased operations in 2008 due to budget constraints and shifting priorities. RFE/RL remains active in other regions, focusing on promoting free media and democratic values.
