Smooth Jazz CD101.9 was a popular radio station in New York City that broadcast on the frequency WQCD 101.9 FM from 1988 to 2008. It specialized in the smooth jazz format, blending instrumental and vocal jazz with a contemporary feel, and became a flagship station for the genre in the United States. Owned by Emmis Communications, the station helped popularize smooth jazz in a major urban market but faced declining ratings in the mid-2000s. In February 2008, WQCD switched formats to rock and became WRXP, marking the end of its smooth jazz era. Despite its closure, CD101.9 remains a nostalgic favorite for fans of the genre.
