Liberty Broadcasting System Playlist
The Liberty Broadcasting System (LBS) was a U.S.-based radio network founded in 1948 by Gordon McLendon. It gained popularity for its innovative recreations of Major League Baseball games, which were broadcast nationwide using telegraphic updates and sound effects. LBS expanded quickly, becoming the second-largest radio network in the U.S. at its peak, with over 400 affiliates. However, financial difficulties and legal challenges, including a lawsuit from Major League Baseball over broadcast rights, led to its closure in 1952. The network's approach to sports broadcasting influenced later developments in the industry.
