It began broadcasting in October 1980 and served the Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, and Northamptonshire areas. The station primarily focused on providing a mix of music, local news, and community programming. In 2010, it was rebranded and merged into the Heart network by its parent company, Global Radio. This transition marked the end of Horizon Radio as a distinct local station.
